Study Shows $5B IP Telephony Market For Small And Mid-sized Businesses
Adoption Rate to Hit 57% by 2008
PARSIPPANY,
NJ -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 02/15/2005 -- According to a new study
from research and consulting firm InfoTech, the IP Telephony (IPT)
market for small and mid-sized U.S. businesses (SMBs) -- those firms
with 20 to 499 employees -- is growing at a compound annual growth
rate (CAGR) of 42% with total spending exceeding $5.3 billion by
2008.
Although the
adoption of converged communications systems by SMBs has trailed
larger enterprises for the last five years, SMBs are starting to
catch up. "The percentage of SMBs in the U.S. that have started
to implement IPT jumped from 9% in 2003 to 28% by the end of 2004.
This year, the SMB adoption rate will reach 35% -- quadrupling in
just two years," explains Terry White, director of InfoTech's
InfoTrack for Converged Communications program.
The study also
found that when SMBs are replacing traditional Key systems or PBXs
with IPT systems, many are re-using existing analog or digital phones.
"In 2005, IP phones will represent 46% of SMB phones in service,
but will increase to 66% by 2008," adds White. "Since
it will become increasingly common for end-users to access new converged
applications through an IP phone set, nearly 70% of the SMBs intending
to buy a converged system during over the next three years see productivity
gains as the primary reason for deploying IP phones."
InfoTech's InfoTrack
for Converged Communications research report will conduct four comprehensive
primary research studies in 2005. Three of the studies will focus
on the decision process for IPT vendor and service selection for
three distinct market segments -- large enterprise, mid-market companies
and small businesses. The fourth report will be devoted entirely
to the market demand for converged applications and the role that
they play in improving business processes.
