InfoTech Study Shows Rebound in Enterprise Communications Market
Total Line Shipments Up 4% In 4Q03
PARSIPPANY,
NJ, April 27, 2004 –
According to a new study from research and consulting firm InfoTech,
the U.S. enterprise communications market has bottomed out and begun
to recover. Total TDM and IP station line shipments were up 4% in
the fourth quarter of 2003, compared to the same time period a year
earlier. This follows more than three consecutive years of negative
growth.

“Rapid
growth in converged IP systems has reached the point that it is
fully offsetting declines in traditional PBX and Key systems”,
said Frank Stinson, program director at InfoTech. For all of 2003,
converged IP system shipments increased 85% over the previous year.
At the same time, sales of new PBX and Key systems declined 29%
and 11%, respectively.
The study also
found that key positive market demand drivers are emerging. “Traditional
PBX systems installed in the 1990’s are nearing the end of
their useful lives”, adds Stinson. “When you couple
that with an improving economy and mainstream acceptance of IP telephony,
the prospects for continued market growth are strong.” InfoTech
is predicting steady market growth through 2008, at which time total
annual shipments will exceed the peak of the last major growth cycle
in 1999.
